Umpire Program
This program is developed and managed by the Dormont Boosters.
8U Age Group
- Kids 12+ (as of Jan 1, 2020) may umpire regular season, playoff and tournament games.
- There will be one field ump at the rate of $10/game and one plate ump at the rate of $15/game
- Field and plate umps are determined by the baseball commissioner and will be evenly distributed as much as possible
- Service hours may be used in place of payment. The home head coach should sign the service hour paper on the day the service is completed
10U Age Group
- Kids 13+ (as of Jan 1, 2020) may umpire games regular season games only. Playoff and tournament games will be umpired by Patch umps.
- There will be one field ump at the rate of $15/game and one plate ump at the rate of $20/game
- Field and plate umps are determined by the baseball commissioner and will be evenly distributed as much as possible
- Service hours may be used in place of payment. The home head coach should sign the service hour paper on the day the service is completed
Entering the Program
- Kids interested in being considered for the umpire program can apply online through the Dormont Boosters Website
- Application does not guarantee participation in the program
Training & Testing
- Each applicant must attend one training course. The training course is mandatory and will only be offered one time during the pre-season
- Each applicant must pass a written and on-field test to be accepted into the program
- The umpire exam must be passed with an 85% or better, and renewed each season
Scheduling
- Applicants will request games weekly when the game/practice schedule is updated. This will happen between 10 AM – 12 PM on Sundays during the season
- Applicants can request playoff and tournament games as those schedules become available
- If an applicant becomes unavailable for a game, they must notify [email protected] at least 24 hours prior to the game. Failure to do so results in a no-show, no exceptions.
Removal from the Program
- Formal complaints from a Dormont coach may result in the umpire being removed from the program. All complaints will be reviewed by the baseball committee and resulting punishment will be determined by the committee.
- No show/No Call may result in an umpire being removed from the program
- 1st instance: Warning is verbally given to the umpire and his/her parents
- 2nd instance: Umpire is suspended from umpiring for two weeks
- 3rd instance: Umpire is removed from the program
