Pop Murray Field – COVID Guidelines

Below are DABA’s guidelines on how to protect players and coaches as we return to baseball & softball.

Concession Stand

  • Only one person in the stand at a time
  • Concession stand worker will wear a mask and gloves.
  • Disinfectant will be used between customers on high touch areas.
  • Products will be placed on counter for customer to pick-up - no handoffs.
  • No unwrapped food will be served in Green Phase (no hot dogs, pretzels, etc.)
  • A line six feet from the concession stand with multiple marks will be chalk painted to show where the next customer can stand.
  • Only one person may stand at the counter at a time.
  • Surfaces will be wiped down with disinfectant at least hourly and often throughout the night, between games and after the last game.
  • Bleachers will be disinfected at the end of each game.
  • Water fountain will remain capped.

Signage/Announcements

  • The Borough will provide one set of COVID-19 signs to be hung at entrance of field.
  • Scripted announcements including COVID-19 safety reminders (please wear your mask, please stay socially distanced of at least 6 feet away from other households) at the beginning and middle of each game. Coaches will also remind players before each practice.

Practices & Games

  • Coaches should wear face covering when possible.
  • Players must disinfect hands before entering the field gates. This will be provided as part of the coach equipment.
  • Parents will not be permitted into the field gates unless there is a significant player injury.
  • Players who are sick are not permitted to play. Temperature checks with no touch forehead will be conducted on each player before each practice and game.
  • Players with a temperature of 100.4 or any other COVID-19 symptom(s) will be sent home. Coaches will use a COVID-19 checklist.
  • Players on the batting team will be kept 6-feet away from each other in designated standing/sitting areas
  • During practices, groups of 5 or less will stay together during the entire practice and rotate practice stations
  • Game baseballs will be switched out and disinfected every second inning, and warmup balls will be kept in a separate bucket per Little League guidelines.
  • No end-game handshakes – only tip of the cap from at least a 6 foot distance.
  • High touch areas will be disinfected between practices and games (at least hourly on game days)
  • Painters tape will be placed on stands to recommend 6-foot safe distancing.
  • Parents will be asked to keep attendees at a minimum – i.e. do not bring relatives and siblings to the games if at all possible.
  • Parents will be encouraged to bring their own seating.

Equipment

  • Only catcher equipment will be provided by DABA. Catcher position will only be at 10U and 12U level, 8U will not have a catcher. Catcher equipment will be disinfected as equipment changes.
  • Players are not permitted to share equipment or drinks. Food is no longer allowed in the field area. (i.e. no sunflower seeds, gum, etc.)
  • Player equipment will be placed 6 feet away from other equipment and spaces will be marked.
  • Parents will be asked to disinfect player equipment at home following games and practices

Cleaning

  • Concession stand will be disinfected each night.
  • Bathrooms are still to be determined, currently working with Borough.
  • Equipment provided by DABA will be disinfected after each game (catcher equipment, warm up baseballs, etc.)
  • Players will disinfect hands with sanitizer before existing the field

Misc

  • If a player tests positive for COVID-19 the parents of team and teams played are notified and DABA play is suspended. DABA will notify Beth Bachman as well.
  • Parents will be required to sign a code of conduct outlining COVID requirements.
  • Players must purchase their own helmets.
  • We will host a donate program so that people don’t have to opt out based on not being able to afford their own equipment.

Parents and Fans

  • Parents will not be permitted into the field gates unless there is a significant player injury
  • Parents will be asked to disinfect player equipment at home following games and practices
  • Parents will be encouraged to bring their own seating
  • Parents will be asked to keep attendees at a minimum – i.e. do not bring relatives and siblings to the games if at all
  • Spectators are encouraged to wear masks.

Other notes

There will be at least 15 minutes between practices/games to ensure that one group is fully vacated before another arrives. This also allows time to quickly wipe down high touch surfaces, if necessary.

Teams and parents should not arrive more than 5 minutes before scheduled times and shall wait for prior teams and families to exit area before entering.
